Parallax

Parallax, in Cleveland's Tremont neighborhood, combines sleek modern decor with exceptional food and friendly, knowledgeable service. Tremont is known for its good restaurants and this is one of the best.

Parallax and Chef Bruell

Longtime Cleveland food fans will remember Chef Zack Bruell's former restaurant, Z Contemporary Cuisine, one of the best Cleveland restaurants of the 1980s. Chef Bruell, with partner David Schneider, brings his restaurant experience and some of his favorite recipes, such as his signature chicken and pommer frites, to his new venture. He also continues his committment to using the freshest and finest ingredients available.

The decor at Parallax is minimalist, with sleek aluminum chairs at simple wooden tables. The circa 1900 building shows off exposed brick walls and its high ceilings. The effect is warm and inviting.

The Food

The menu highlights fish and seafood dishes, complete with a sushi bar, along with a smattering of grilled and braised meats. The menu changes seasonally to take advantage of local produce and other seasonal ingredients.

Appetizer highlights include a selection of fresh oysters, a Japanese tuna tostado, and lightly fried green tomatos with crayfish. Salads include another favorite from "Z," Bruell's warm mushroom salad as well as a tasty salad of seared sea scallops with arugula and a truffle vinaigrette (pictured by clicking above).

Entrees favor seafood. Highlights include a complex and delicious Thai fish stew, black cod with a miso glaze, and local walleye with coucous. A favorite meat entree is the "Osso Buco" style braised short rib (pictured by clicking above).

Desserts are limited, but delectable. Selections include a warm apple tart, always some kind of chocolate surprise, and housemade ice cream.

Wines

The wine selection at Parallax, put together by David Schneider, features seafood-friendly wines, with a large number of Alsatian varietals and Pinto Noir. The list includes twenty-five wines by the glass as well as 100 wines by the bottle. The eclectic mix covers most of the wine-growing regions of the world.

Visiting Parallax

Parallax is easily accessible for all sides of town via the W. 14th Street exit from I-71. The restaurant is open Monday through Thursday from 5pm to 11pm and Friday and Saturday from 5pm to midnight.
