Toledo, in Northwest Ohio, is filled with fun and festive things to do during the winter holiday season. Below are just a few of our favorites:

Lights before Christmas at the Toledo Zoo

The amazing light event at the Toledo Zoo boasts more than one million lights and a dancing music display for a perfect holiday evening the whole family will enjoy. Lights Before Christmas runs from November 21, 2008 through December 31, , seven days a week. The zoo is open Monday through Thursday from 5pm to 8pm and Friday through Sunday from 5pm to 9pm. Parking is available at both the Anthony Wayne Trail and Broadway entrances. Food and beverages are for sale throughout the park.

Children's Wonderland

Children’s Wonderland at the Lucas County Fairgrounds is a long running holiday animated display for kids. The event is available from November 28, 2008 through December 31, 2008 with hours seven days a week. The display is open Monday through Thursday from 10am to 7pm, Friday and Saturday from 10am to 9pm, and Sunday from noon to 6pm. Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, $3 for kids 2-12, and free for children under 2. Special group rates are available for $3 per person.

Visits with Santa

*The Shops at Fallen Timbers, Maumee:
Santa will be available at Fallen Timbers from November 28, 2008 to December 14, 2008 Monday through Thursday from 3pm to 7pm, Friday and Saturday from noon to 8pm, and Sunday from noon to 5pm. From December 15, 2008 to December 24, 2008, Santa will welcome children from noon to 8pm Monday through Saturday and from noon to 5pm on Sunday.

*Westfield Franklin Park, Toledo:
Santa will be available at Westfield Franklin Park from November 14, 2008 to December 24, 2008. Families are welcome seven days a week with hours Monday through Saturday from 10am to 9pm and Sunday from 11am to 6pm. Christmas Eve hours will be from 10am to 5pm. Photo packages are available priced from $16 to $35.

Holidays at Manor House

The Manor House at the Wildwood Preserve Metropark has been decorated for the holidays by volunteers for more than 30 years. The event is free for the community and is open from December 7, 2008 through December 14, 2008. Tours are available Monday through Friday from 10am to 8pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 5pm.

"A Christmas Carol" at the Stranahan Theater

The Toledo Repertoire Theatre will be performing the classic holiday story, "A Christmas Carol," at the Stranahan Theatre in Maumee from December 5, 2008 to December 7, 2008. The show is at 8pm Friday and Saturday with a 230pm matinee performance on Sunday. Tickets for adults cost $25 and children are $15.

The Toledo Ballet Presents "The Nutcracker"

With the longest running annual performance in the nation, The Toledo Ballet with be dancing "The Nutcracker" at Stranahan Theatre on December 13, 2008 and December 14, 2008. Saturday’s shows will be held at both 2pm and 7pm with an additional matinee showing on Sunday at 2pm.

Holiday Cafe and Craft Show at Wildwood

During the same time as the holiday tour of the Manor House, area crafters will be offering handmade gifts for sale at the Metroparks Hall in Wildwood. Snack and beverages will be available as you browse for the perfect holiday gift. Hours for the sale are December 7, 2008 through December 14, 2008 from 10am to 8pm. Entry to the sale is free and proceeds benefit Metroparks projects.

Holiday Lights at Ritter Plantetarium

From November 28, 2008 through December 19, 2008, Ritter Planetarium at the University of Toledo will be offering an explanation of holiday lights for families. The event is available Fridays at 730pm and provides an account of how the lights during this time of year were used by our ancestors to help establish our holiday customs.
