Huntington Playhouse

By Sandy Mitchell, About.com

The Hungtington Playhouse, in the Cleveland suburb of Bay Village, began in 1958 in the former carriage barn of the John Huntington Estate, part of the Huntington Reservation of the Cleveland Metroparks. Today, the 246-seat theater produces seven plays each season, from early May through December

History:

The site of the Huntington Playhouse was once part of the summer house of John Huntington, an early Standard Oil executive. The original playhouse occupied the carriage barn. When that structure burnt to the ground in 1970, it was rebuilt through, in large part, the efforts of the local community. One beam from the original theater was included and the seats were salvaged from downtown Cleveland's Palace Theater, which was schedule to be destroyed.

2008 Season:

The Huntington Playhouse produced a full schedule of seven plays each May through December. The 2008 line-up is as follows:
  • "Nunsense" - May 8 to June 1
  • "Dearly Beloved" - June 12 - June 29
  • "West Side Story" - July 10 - August 3
  • "Some Enchanted Evening" - August 14 - September 7
  • Agatha Christie's "The Mousetrap" - October 16 - November 2
  • "Miracle on 34th Street" - November 28 - December 21
Huntington Playhouse productions are at 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays and 2pm on Sundays.
