Guide Review - John Q's Steakhouse

John Q’s is a steak lover’s paradise and something of a Cleveland institution. Located downtown, right at Public Square, the venerable steakhouse serves generous portions and old favorites, such as a 28-oz Porterhouse, fork-tender filet mignon, and steak au poivre. All dinners are accompanied by either a house salad or a Caesar salad and a choice of side dishes. Lunch offerings include a juicy burger, a spicy chicken fettuccini, and delicious salads. The atmosphere is that of a traditional men’s club, with dark paneled walls, crisp white linen tablecloths, and sturdy flatware. The service is gracious, experienced, and knowledgeable.

*****Update 5/23/13--John Q's is closing its doors on June 15, 2013 after more than 20 years in business. Owner, Rick Cassera urges gift card holders to use them by that date. According to "The Plain Dealer," a new steakhouse with new owners is planned for the space. (It won't be the same.)***** John Q’s has a good selection of California wines, many offered by the glass, and a smattering of wines from other parts of the world. The bar also features a varied selection of ports and single malt scotches. There is a large and elegant private dining room, ideal for parties and corporate functions as well as a spacious, outdoor patio with a view of Public Square. John Q’s also features a Sunday brunch during Browns season on game days. It’s a great place to dine before or after a game or downtown event and the place for a ringside seat for the July 4th fireworks and Cleveland Orchestra concert.
