History:
Thistledown Race Track was founded in 1925, one of Ohio's first tracks. Today, the one-mile oval dirt track is owned by Magna Entertainment, who also owns Santa Anita Park and Pimlico Race Course.Racing at Thistledown:
Thistledown offers live thoroughbred racing every day from mid-April to mid-November. Post time is 105pm. In addition to the Ohio Derby (described below), the track is home to several important races, including the Angenora Stakes and the Cleveland Gold Cup.The Ohio Derby:
The most important race on the Thistledown calendar is the Ohio Derby, run each June. The Grade II 1 1/8-mile race for three-year-olds carries a guaranteed $300,000 purse.Dining at Thistledown:
Thistledown's restaurant "Silks" is open Fridays and Saturdays from 1130am to 5pm. Here race goers can wager and watch the race while dining on salads, sandwiches, appetizers, and desserts. For reservations and information, call 216 662-8600x275.Admission, Hours, and Parking:
Thistledown opens to the public at 1130am daily. Admission and general parking are free. Preferred parking is $2. Classic seating ranges from $8 to $6 (with a $3 deposit returned) and Box seats with a TV are $3. Children under 12 are admitted with an adult, but you must be 18 to wager.Other Thistledown Events:
In addition to live horse racing, Thistledown offers daily simulcast racing. Late night (until midnight) simulcasting is offered every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday.Contact Information:
