Akron’s Highland Square has been reinvented with new shops. One of these shops is The Market Path, offering unique gift items with a cause. Artisan groups from 10,000 villages and 40 countries from around the world offer their hand-crafted gifts. There is something special to be found here for everyone on your gift list, including yourself.
The Market Path Gift Items:
Items at The Market Path are organized by style and country, in beautifully arranged displays. Some of the items for sale include silk scarves, hand-carved wooden items, jewelry made from various materials, pottery, baskets, paintings, frames, mirrors, bags, purses, candles, soaps, teas, coffees, musical instruments, housewares, vases, ornaments, wrapping & other papers, hand-made cards, and more. There is something available for every taste and style.
All items sold at The Market Path meet the Fair Trade Federation certification. The artisans set the prices for their artwork, guaranteeing that every item is fairly traded. By buying fairly traded items, you are helping to end global poverty. Prices do not reflect a higher price, even though the artisans are receiving a much larger percentage of profits. Fair Trade businesses work directly with the artisans, leaving out the middle men. Prices at The Market Path are very reasonable.
A Story Behind Every Product:
Since every item is fairly traded, The Market Path knows where every item is made. Not only are you purchasing a product that will help someone in a developing country, but you will know about who made the item for you. Each item comes with its own story to be printed and sent home with you. See a picture of who made the items for you, where they live, and how they have been helped by fair trade. The stories behind the products make each item an even more unique and special gift to be given.
Ministry of First Grace United Church of Christ:
The Market Path is a ministry of Akron's First Grace United Church of Christ. It was their vision to see a place where Northeast Ohio can support the wider community with items that promote fair trade and empowerment of impoverished artisans around the world.
The Market Path and your Church:
Fair ‘N Square is a program that enables your local church to schedule a private showing at The Market Path on Sundays, after church. Fair ‘N Square includes refreshments and a visual presentation of the artisan’s stories and countries. 10% of all purchases will be donated to your church’s mission work ministries.
Meet Us At The Table is a program to help local church mission teams raise funds. Your mission team will decide what products you would like available for sale at your location. The Market Path will bring those items to your special event or to be for sale after church service. This program also includes a presentation on stories of fair trade and how people’s lives have been changed. 15% of all purchases that day will be donated to your mission work.
The Market Path is open Monday through Thursday from 11am to 8pm, Friday through Saturday from 11am to 9pm, and Sunday from 1pm to 5pm.
