Marilou K. Suszko's "Farms and Foods of Ohio," published in 2007 by Hipprocene Books is an excellent Ohio food resource. This 230-page book is part Ohio travel guide and part cookbook. It profiles 47 Ohio farms, wineries, orchards, and other food-producing enterprises from all corners of the state and shares recipes from each location.
Mustard Seed Market and Cafe Cookbook (2007)
The Mustard Seed Market and Cafe, with locations in Solon and Fairlawn, was a pioneer in marketing organic foods in Northeast Ohio. Founded in 1981, the market became the first Ohio store to become a certified organic retailer.
This lovely cookbook, compiled by Bev Shaffer, cookbook author, columnist, and Mustard Seed's Cooking School and Bakery Directory, features 250 brunch, soup, salad, meat, vegetable, bean, drink, and sweets recipes--many illustrated with color photos. Every Clevelander who enjoys going out to eat needs this book. Now in its seventh (2006) edition, this 212 page, softcover book by Cleveland Plain Dealer contributor, Laura Taxel, is filled with Northeast Ohio ethnic restaurant reviews. From Polish to Mexican, from Ethiopian to Japanese, it's all there.
Ohio Wine Country Excursions (2005) by Patricia Latimer
Ohio's wineries are becoming more widely known. The nineteen wineries in Lake and Ashtabula Counties as well as the dozen or so Lake Erie Island area wineries, produce excellent Rieslings, Chambourtins, and Icewines. There are even some good red wines. This 240-page, softcover book tells all about them as well as their tasting rooms, restaurants, gift shops, and nearby accommodations.
Cleveland Food Memories (2003) by Gail Ghetia Bellamy
This 128-page book is subtitled: The food we loved, the Places We Bought It, and the People Who Made it Special. That about sums up the book. It's a great nostoglic romp for baby-boomers and older Clevelanders who remember Manner's, the old Lawson store, Hough Bakery, and Chandler and Rudd when they had four stores.
