Ohio has 74 state parks and some of the best of them are locate right here in the Northern part of the state. Enjoy the wonders of Lake Erie, a number of inland lakes and rivers, and the rolling hills of the eastern part of Ohio. There's something to do year-round. (listed in random order)
Geneva State Park
Geneva State Park, located on the shores of Lake Erie, just outside of Geneva-on-the-Lake in Ashtabula County, is a 698-acre facility, offering hiking trails, a 300-foot sand beach, a marina, outdoor pool, and several picnic areas. Overnight guests can choose from cabins, campsites, and one of the 109 rooms at the Lodge, many of which have Lake Erie views.
Mohican State Park
Mohican State Park, located in Loudonville southeast of Cleveland, is known for its canoeing, kayaking, and fishing on the Mohican River. Other facilities include a lodge, a number of cottages, and 144 campsites.
Maumee Bay State Park
Located just east of Toledo Ohio, Maumee Bay State Park sits on 1850 acres at the edge of Lake Erie. The park, opened in 1975, offers year-round activities, camping, golf, and a luxurious lodge and conference center.
Punderson State Park
Punderson State Park, located east of Cleveland in Geauga County, offers visitors year round sports, lodging, and scenic beauty. Among the many activities at the 741-acre Punderson Park are camping, fishing, cross-country skiing, boating, and swimming.
South Bass Island State Park
South Bass Island State Park, on the eastern side of the island has 135 campsites, 10 with electric, water, and sewer hook-ups. Facilities at the campground include shower and restroom facilities, a boat launch, picnic shelters, and a small stone beach. Reservations, particularly on summer weekends, fill up quickly.
Malabar Farm State Park
Malabar Farm State Park, located just outside of Mansfield Ohio, was built by Pulitzer Prize winning author Louis Bromfield. A best-selling writer in the 1930s, 40s, and 50s, Bromfield was also a pioneer in sustainable farming. This state park offers a wealth of unique activities, including a year-round farmers' market, tours of Bromfield's original main house, a restaurant, camping, hiking, and lots more.
Kelleys Island State Park
Kelleys Island, the largest of the American Lake Erie islands is located off of Port Clinton in North Central Ohio. The state park offers 129 shaded campsites, which are available on a first-come, first serve basis. The park also offers several pet campsites, yurts, and a few sites with electrical hook-ups. There are several shower houses. Activities include a long stretch of sand beach, hiking, and a number of watersports.
Portage Lakes State Park
Portage Lakes State Park in Akron is known for its boating, swimming, and fishing. The park offers eight boat launches, a sand beach, and boat and watersport equipment rental. Other facilities include camping sites, five miles of hiking trails, and picnic facilities.
Pymatuning State Park
Pymatuning State Park, located in Andover in the northeast corner of Ohio, is known for its beautiful 14,000-acre lake and its swimming, walleye fishing, and boating. Facilities include boat rental, five boat launches, and picnic grounds. Overnight accommodations include 331 campsites, 26 cottages, and a number of yurts.
