Opera Cleveland

Opera Cleveland was formed in 2006 by merging the Cleveland Opera with Lyric Opera Cleveland. The new company launched its first season in April of 2007, which includes two grand opera presentations at Playhouse Square's State Theater and three more intimate performances at the Cleveland Play House.

History:

Opera Cleveland was created in 2006 by merging the Cleveland Opera with Lyric Opera Cleveland. Both companies have a 30+ year history in Cleveland. The merger was made possible by funding from the Cleveland Foundation and other area charitable organizations.

Artistic Directors:

Cleveland Opera's Leon Major and the Lyric Opera's Jonathan Fields will remain with Opera Cleveland as artistic advisers. Mr. Major will oversee the productions at the State Theater and Mr. Fields will direct the Cleveland Playhouse productions. The company's Board of Trustees is searching for an executive director to oversee the entire operation.

2010/2011 Season:

Opera Cleveland's 2010/11 season will include these productions:
  • Lucia di Lammermoor - May 20-23, 2010
  • Pearl Fishers - September 23-26, 2010
  • I Pagliacci and La Voix Humaine - November 11-14, 2010li]Werthur - April 7-10, 2011
