Willoughby, Ohio is located in Lake County along the shores of Lake Erie about 30 minutes east of downtown Cleveland. It's a quiet community of around 22,000 residents and boasts an historic downtown shopping and dining area.
Willoughby has a long and varied history. It was a French settlement called Charlton in the 1750s and later a British enclave called "Chagrin River." As the town industrialized, the name was changed to "Chagrin Mills," but its was Dr. Westel Willoughby who would give the town its lasting name.
Dr. Willoughby established the Willoughby Medical College there in 1834, one of the preminent medical schools in the US at the time. The college would eventually become part of Case Western Reserve University
, but the name stayed.
According to the 2000 census, Willoughby has 22,621 residents, 96% of whom are white. In addition, 43% of Bay Village residents are married. The median age is 39 and the median household income is $43,387.

Willoughby shares the school system with nearby Lakeline, Timberlake, Waite Hill, Eastlake, Willoughby Hills and Willowick.
Willoughby is also home to the Andrews Osborne Academy and Immaculate Conception private schools.
