Lake , Ashtabula , and Geauga Counties

The three counties just east of Cleveland -- Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula -- are home to one of Ohio's most important wine districts as well as a myriad of lakefront activities, scenic covered bridges, and picturesque small Ohio towns.

Geneva-on-the-Lake, located on the shores of Lake Erie about an hour's drive east of Cleveland, was one of Ohio's first lakeside resorts. In the early 1900s, the scenic location was home to dozens of cottages and was popular with the Midwest "gentry," including John D. Rockeller, Henry Ford, and Harvey Firestone. Today, the area is filled with outdoor activities, arcades, summer events, and several Lake Erie wineries.

Renaissance Quail Hotel Resort
The Renaissance Quail Hollow Resort, located about an hour's drive east of Cleveland in Painesville, is a scenic, luxury resort in the heart of Lake Erie wine country. The resort is home to two championship golf courses as well as a spa and a well-regarded steakhouse.

Great Lakes Mall -- Mentor
Great Lakes Mall, in Mentor Ohio, is located about 20 miles east of downtown Cleveland. The spacious mall is anchored by Macy's, J C Penney, Sears, and Dillard's and features over 150 specialty stores.

Chalet Debonne Winery - Madison Ohio
Lake Erie Wines are noted for their lush, fruit flavor profiles. The region's icewines are particularly note-worthy. Among the many wine growers in Ohio's Lake and Ashtabula Counties, east of Cleveland, is Chalet Debonne, Ohio's largest estate-bottled winery.

Holden Arboretum
The Holden Arboretum, located east of Cleveland in Kirtland, Ohio, is a 100+ acre showplace for indigenous Ohio plants, flowers, trees, and wildlife. The beautiful park features specialty gardens, miles of hiking trails for all skill levels, and a constant schedule of educational events and exhibits.

It's fun for the whole family.

Ohio's Lake Erie Wineries
Ohio's Lake Erie Wine Trail includes nineteen wineries in Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula Counties. Particularly delightful are the icewines produced in this area. Most of the wineries have tasting rooms and many also feature restaurants, gift shops, and picnic areas.
