Stepping out to the street at points along the route you encounter Cliff Garten’s “Street Signs.” Integrated into the paving and depicting a variety of recognizable hand gestures, the signs “express simple ideas or thoughts in the hustle and bustle of the street.” Garten, from California, employs historical and universal iconography in his Euclid Avenue art such as the Hopewell Hand, the Vitarka yoga mudra, and the closed hand of Solidarity. His designs, rendered in an archetypal pattern, are placed throughout the corridor silently communicating humanity and continuity.
