Maintaining CPA’s goal of integrative art is Cleveland artist Mark Howard who translates the language of technology to stainless steel waste receptacles, adorning his cans with computer-generated “trash” symbols. Allusions to language and symbolism also resonate in the artist’s tree grating which conveys the economic history of Euclid Avenue through wampum, a Native American tradition of patterned beading. Capping off the functionality of Howard’s designs are man-hole covers that depict various designs, messages, and histories on rustic steel plating.
