Trader Joe's, a California-based chain of food markets, has two Northeast Ohio locations -- one in Westlake and one in Eton Shopping Plaza in Woodmere. The market is known for its organic food selection, extensive and affordable wine department, and fun atmosphere.
Trader Joe's started in 1958 in the greater Los Angeles area with a single market. Originally called Pronto Markets, they changed their name in 1967 to reflect their Hawaiian atmosphere and its owner, Joe Coulombe. Today, the company has more than 270 stores in 20 states and has become something of a cult with food enthusiasts.
Trader Joe's is known for its wide and affordable selection of organic foods, unusual produce, baked goods, and prepared foods. Although you'll find some of the same things you'd find in a traditional grocery, Trader Joe's goes further in scope with healthy and organic foods and easy-to-prepare, yet healthy selections.
Trader Joe's is known for its large wine selection, with items in all price ranges. Particularly well-known is its Charles Shaw wine, better known as "Two Buck Chuck."
