Talking with Valda Lewis

From Anne Price, About.com Guest

Overall, how long did you spend working on the film?

I was up and down there for about three years, but there was a year where I was overwhelmed with other work. I was also trying to figure out how I was going to tell the story. Every time I'd go back down there would be something else. I'd get more pictures, make a list of what was still needed, go back and find what I needed. I felt very privileged for these people to have allowed me to come in and for them to tell me their stories the way they did. They were the first audience I played it [the movie] to and I was really worried about what they were going to say. They loved it. For me that was enough. I didn't care if anything more happened to the film.
