Terrence Howard, although born in Chicago, spent most of his formative years in Cleveland. The grandson of a noted New York stage actress, Howard, nonetheless resisted the temptations of acting until he was "discovered" on the streets of New York City.

He has since proven himself a skilled actor, with diverse roles in Crash, Their Eyes Were Watching God, and The Best Man. He was nominated for a 2006 Academy Award for Best Actor for his work in Hustle and Flow.

Early Life:

Terrence Howard was born in Chicago, March 11, 1969. He grew up in Cleveland and spent summers in New York City with his grandmother, actress Minnie Gentry.

Mr. Howard attended Pratt Institute in New York where he earned a degree in chemical engineering.

Personal Life:

Terrence Howard is married to Lori Howard (for a second time), but separated. They have three children. His name has been linked to several high-profile women, including Miss Universe, Dayanara Torres (former wife of singer Marc Antony).

Howard is an accomplished musician (you can see his musical talent in Ray) and has a keen interest in science.

Awards:

In addition to the 2006 Academy Award nomination for best actor (for Hustle and Flow), Howard was nominated for a 2005 Golden Globe Award for best actor (also for Hustle and Flow). He is also a past nominee for an Independent Spirit Award and the Chicago Film Critics Award and a past recipient of the NAACP Image Award.

What's Next:

Terrence Howard plays Justice Thurgood Marshall in Crusaders, scheduled to be released in 2009, and superhero, Jim Rhodes in Iron Man, due out later in 2008.
