Education: Resnik graduated from Akron's Firestone High School. She earned a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University and a doctorate in electrical engineering from the University of Maryland.
Previous Experience: Prior to joining the space program, Resnik worked for RCA in a number of positions. She subsequently worked as a biomedical engineer in the Laboratory of Nerophysiology at the National Insititues of Healthy in Bethesda, Maryland. Just prior to joining NASA, she was a senior systems engineer for Xerox in California.
NASA Experience: Resnik was selected as an astronaut candidate by NASA in January of 1978 and completed her training in August of 1979. She was a mission specialist on STS 41-D (1984), the maiden flight of the Discovery, and mission specialist aboard the Challeger (1986).
Awards: Resnik was awarded the Congressional Space Medal of Honor posthumously.
