Education: Eisele graduated from West High School in Columbus. He earned a BS from teh US Naval Academy and a MS in Astronautics at the Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio.
Previous Experience: Eisele was an Air Force project engineer and test pilot prior to joing the space program. He logged more than 4200 hours.
NASA Experience: Eisele joined the space program in 1963, one of the third group of astronauts selected. He was command module pilot for the Apollo VII mission. He served as backup command module pilot for the Apollo X flight. He logged 260 hours in space.
Post-NASA Experience: Eisle left the space program in 1972 to become the director of the Peace Corps in Thailand. After his time in Thailand, he worked for Marion Power Sovel Company and the investment firm of Oppenheimer & Company.
Awards: Eisele received the NASA exceptional Service Metal, the Air Force Distinguished Flying Cross, and numerous other awards.
Family:Eisele was survived by his wife, Susan and six children.
