Cleveland Ohio will host the 2014 Gay Games on August 9-16, 2014. The event, held annually since 1982, will feature 30 sports, two cultural events and opening and closing ceremonies. It is expected to draw up to 12,000 participants. The competitions will be held at Cleveland Browns Stadium and other Cleveland and Akron venues. The Gay Games were started in 1982, the brainchild of Olympian and decathele, Dr. Tom Waddell. The first event was held in San Francisco and subsequent events are held every four years. Past host cities include Cologne, Chicago, Vancouver, Amsterdam, and Sydney. Cleveland beat out Washington DC and Boston for the 2014 event.
