C & Y Chinese Restaurant

C & Y Chinese Restaurant, located in Cleveland's Chinatown neighborhood, is a large and lively eatery, reminiscent of the large Chinese restaurants around the California Bay area. The menu is varied, the clientele a harmonious mix of Asians and others, and the atmosphere upbeat and fun.

The Food at C & Y Chinese Restaurant

The menu at C&Y is huge. There is a page of specials followed by sections of beef, pork, chicken, lamb, shrimp, lobster, and vegetarian dishes. The menu also includes Chinese specialties, such as abalone and shark's fin and Cleveland/Ohio hybrids such as hot and spicy walleye.
Dim Sum (pictured at left), those delightful plates of dumplings and savories, is served daily from 11am to 2pm. C & Y also offers their entire menu for carry-out and (nearby) delivery. They will also cater your private home party. Just ask. Jimmy, the proprietor, is friendly and available for menu suggestions.

C & Y has a full bar and a separate drink menu with several decent wine selections, beers, and Polynesian cocktails.

The service is attentive and friendly, although the language barrier (most servers speak Mandarin) makes special requests a little difficult at times.

A Festive Atmosphere

The decor at C&Y is a hodgepodge of kitschy souvenir shop and elegant oriental design. You couldn't duplicate it if you tried, but somehow it works to create a fun and festive atmosphere. There are large tanks of lobsters and other fish on one side of the room, adjacent to the bar, and a colorful Christmas "shrine" as a kind of focal point.

C & Y is a great place for an affordable lunch or a late-night, after-event dinner.

The Christmas Story House Connection

A Christmas Story House, one of Cleveland's newest attractions, opened in November of 2006. The Tremont neighborhood house, where the popular holiday movie was filmed, has been restored to its original 1940s condition and welcomes visitors to view the house, the yard, and the museum across the street.

Movie fans will remember the family going to a Chinese restaurant for Christmas turkey (Peking duck). In keeping with that theme, the Christmas Story House has named C & Y Restaurant the "Official Restaurant of the Christmas Story House". Inside of C&Y, the movie is shown continuously (but quietly) on a large screen in the dining room. Visitors to the attraction receive a 20 percent discount on their meal at C & Y just by showing their ticket stub from the house.
