Guide Review - Sans Souci: A Taste of Provence in Downtown Cleveland

Sans Souci, literally "without a care," aptly describes the comfortable, cheerful atmosphere at this downtown Cleveland restaurant. Located in a corner of the Renaissance hotel, adjacent to the Tower City shopping complex, Sans Souci serves tasty Mediterranean cuisine, which incorporates the best dishes of Spain, the Provence region of France, Greece, Italy, and even Morocco.

The menu here changes frequently in order to take advantage of the freshest local ingredients, but highlights always include simply grilled fish, grilled meat items, such as veal and lamb chops, and satisfying seafood dishes. The meal at Sans Souci starts with delicious house-made bread accompanied by tapenade, a savory olive spread. Salads are crisp and made with organic greens and the dessert cart never fails to tempt.

The wine list at Sans Souci is extensive and features a good selection of reasonably-priced Spanish wines, a perfect accompaniment to many entrees here.

The decor reflects the restaurant's Provencal flavor and includes bouquets of cheerful sunflowers, hand-painted murals on Tuscan-style walls, and French country-style wooden furniture. It's warm and inviting even on the coldest Cleveland winter's day.
