Guide Review - A Better Place Caribbean and American Restaurant
A Better Place Caribbean and American Restaurant, which opened in downtown Cleveland in spring of 2006, is a delightful oasis in a sea of office towers and forgettable eateries.
The food at A Better Place starts with light and tasty conch fritters and house-made soups, including a refreshing gazpacho. Sandwiches include a jerk chicken sandwich and a tequila-marinated chicken breast sandwich on focaccia bread. There are also traditional burgers. All sandwiches are served with made-to-order, hand-cut french fries, perhaps the best in the city. Highlights of the entrée menu include cornmeal-battered catfish and a varied list of southern side dishes, including red beans and rice and sautéed greens. The highlight of the Dessert menu is a luscious key lime pie.
The service is casual and friendly, efficient, but not effusive. The restaurant offers full bar service, including a variety of beers on tap, including several Great Lakes Brewery selections. A late night bar menu is served nightly, making this a great place to dine after the theater or an event at Playhouse Square.
