The Dr. John T. Carey Memorial AIDS walk, founded in 1989, is held the first Saturday in October in Cleveland's University Circle neighborhood. The walk, named for one of the first Cleveland doctors to treat AIDS patients, supports a number of area charities. The 2008 date has yet to be announced.
Participate: Participants in the AIDS Walk are asked to solicit donations to the fund raiser. Registration is October 6 from 6am to 8am. For the registration form, click here.
Other Events at the AIDS Walk: In addition to the walk, the AIDS Walk events include a variety of vendors and information booths, live entertainment, and refreshments.
Volunteer: Scores of volunteers are required in order for the AIDS walk to be a success -- both for the event day and the pre-events. If you are interested in helping, fill out this form indicating your interests and when you are available.
Charties Supported by the AIDS Walk: The John T. Carey Memorial AIDS Walk supports a number of worthy local charities and organizations. Among them are AIDS Taskforce of Greater Cleveland, The Free Medical Clinic of Greater Cleveland, the Agape Program- Antioch Development Corporation, The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Community Center of Greater Cleveland, Planned Parenthood of Greater Cleveland, the Womens Center of Greater Cleveland, Hispanic UMADAOP, the Ohio AIDS Coalition, Community AIDS Network (Akron), Camp Sunrise, and Proyecto Luz/Project Light.
