About the Museum:
The two-story house has been completely restored just as it was when Gable was born on February 1, 1901. The museum features may items that once belonged to Gable, including his boyhood sled and 1954 Cadillac.About Clark Gable:
Gable, born William Clark Gable, lived in the Cadiz house until he was two years old. He then moved to nearby Hopedale and later to Ravenna. After high school, he worked in Akron's tire factories before heading to the West Coast at age 21.Gable refined his acting skills in Portland, Oregon before moving to Hollywood in 1924. He was signed by MGM in 1930.
Gable is best known for his work in "It Happened One Night," for which he won an Academy Award, and for "Mutiny on the Bounty" and "Gone with the Wind."
The Clark Gable Bed and Breakfast:
Adjacent to the museum is the Clark Gable Bed and Breakfast, a two-guest room inn, decorated in the period of Gable's boyhood. Each room is equipped with a TV/VCR and the inn has a library of tapes and books about the actor. Rates include breakfast and complimentary soft drinks and coffee in the evening. The Clark Gable Birth Home and Museum is open October - April, Tuesday through Friday from 10am to 4pm; in May, Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 4pm; and from June - September, Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 4pm and Sunday from 130pm to 4pm.Admission is $5.50 for adults, $4.75 for those 55 and older, and $3 for children age 12 and younger. Parking in free.
