Ansel Adams, born in 1902, is well known for his 60-year career as a photographer of American landscapes -- and people, too. Cleveland is lucky to have on loan 117 images by Adams from the private collection of Lynn and Tom Meredith of Austin Texas.

These images were selected by the photographer, prior to his death in 1984, as those that best represent his achievements. Among them are his familiar scenes of America's National Parks as well as more intimate portraits and textural studies.

"Ansel Adams:a Legacy" is on view at the Cleveland Institute of Art, at University Circle, from May 20 to August 19, 2007. The gallery is open Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 10am to 5pm, and on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am to 9pm. Admission is free.
