The Cleveland Playhouse, established in 1915, was America's first professional theater company. It is also the country's oldest regional theater. The current building, located on Euclid Avenue just west of the Cleveland Clinic, opened in 1983. It was designed by architect Philip Johnson and includes the 744-seat Bolton Theatre, the 503-seat Drury Theatre, the 147-seat Brooks Theatre, and the 322-seat Baxter Stage. In addition the the theaters, the building has a great rotunda lobby that frequently hosts art exhibits.
For the holidays, the Playhouse is producing A Christmas Story, the stage version of the 1983 movie that was filmed in Tremont. The play runs through December 23, 2007.
