The Wolf Creek Environmental Center is a wildlife sanctuary in Medina, Ohio, designed to teach residents about nature and the environment. Visitors can enjoy the Many opportunities to observe wildlife and scenery at the center or participate in one of its many educational, scout, and family programs.

Trails:

There are many types of trails at the Wolf Creek Environmental Center that wind through the forests, pine tree plantations, meadows, grassy areas, and wetlands. Paved and wood trails are provided and are handicap accessible. Spy turtles, ducks, geese, fish, and snakes over the marsh and wetland areas on the wooden bridge that stretches across the waters. Several deep water ponds are also on the premises, so keep kids nearby.

Enjoying Wolf Creek Environmental Center:

Everyone is welcome to tour the environmental center. The building design purposefully brings the outdoors inside. Windows with great views of the meadow and wetlands fill every wall. Sitting areas are spread throughout the building to relax. The center contains a classroom, student lab with creatures like snakes, lizards, and fish, reading room, rest rooms, offices, and a large central gathering area.Reading materials are available in the library, as well as pamphlets on activities at Wolf Creek and the entire Medina Park District. The room has a tranquil view of the stream running over the rocks outside; the sounds of the rushing waters are piped into the building. Other sitting areas are a welcoming treat as you can watch birds, squirrels, and chipmunks in abundance rushing around to enjoy their feedings.

School Programs:

When Mrs. Ruth Oesnslager donated the 103 acres that make up the Wolf Creek Environmental Center, the only requirement was that it be used for educational purposes. There is an educational program available year round for kids in Kindergarten through Middle School. The programs are broken down by age, subject, and season. Programs are led by naturalists and available to schools, home school groups, and other children groups. Registration is required. The school programs are designed to be active, hands-on, and fun, utilizing the outdoor grounds and indoor classroom and labs.

Scout-Related Programs:

Boy Scout and Girl Scout groups can earn their badges at the Wolf Creek Environmental Center. Programs are available year round, however some programs are only offered during specific seasons. Registration is required through the Park District Headquarters online or by calling 330-722-9364.

Events at Wolf Creek:

In addition to the formal school and scout programs, many events and programs are offered year round at the facility and grounds. Examples include conferences, film showings, art shows, camps, hikes, clubs, and astronomy.

Getting Involved:

Individuals and groups can get involved by volunteering. There are endless opportunities. If working outdoors is your interest, in addition to maintenance and cleanup, you or your group can elect to adopt a garden, building structures and bridges, photography, trail monitoring, or you may suggest a project of interest. Inside opportunities include clerical work, event assistants, greeters, library aide, puppeteer, and more. Keep the center a valuable asset to the community by volunteering your time and services.

Park Hours:

Wolf Creek Environmental Center is open Tuesday – Saturday from 9am to 5pm and Sunday from noon to 5pm. Admission is free.
