Guide Review - Rockne's
Rockne’s is a regional franchise restaurant with 12 Northeast Ohio locations, including restaurants in Akron, Cuyahoga Falls, Stow, Solon, Montrose, Brooklyn, Fairlawn, Streetsboro, and Kent. Although there is always a crowd at Rockne's, there is usually only a minimal wait during weekdays and about a ½ hour wait during busy weekends.
The décor is a pub theme with warm wood and rich, dark colors all about. Local Akron memorabilia, as well as sports themed items and pictures, adorn the walls. With many televisions hanging on the walls, there is a rare seat that doesn't have a good view of the game.
Rockne's is a great family place where people of all ages can visit for an all-American meal. The main fare is burger and fries, although they have delicious salads, hot sandwiches, house made soups, and munchies. A full service bar is available.
I have received good service and food each time I've visited. Recently, I warmed up with a hearty bowl of chicken dumpling soup, served in a hearty bread bowl with plenty of tender pieces of chicken. The bread bowl is rather hard to finish, but wonderful to break apart and dip into the hot soup. As a side, I ordered French fries, which is more than enough for two people. Add a splash of vinegar for fries that taste like the summer fair. Another favorite is the Max the Knife burger, Rockne's specialty. This gigantic burger is held in place by a knife which can later be used to cut it in two. This sandwich is constructed of four Angus beef patties with loads of cheese, special sauce, and fresh toppings. Rockne's also has a kids menu with entrees for only $3.99 each that include fries, drink, and a cookie.
I've never been disappointed with my food or service at Rockne's. If you visit during lunch, just ask the waitress to speed up the process and they are happy to accommodate you.
