Tres Potrillos Mexican Restaurant

Tres Potrillos is fast becoming a favorite for Mexican cuisine in the Montrose/Akron area. The atmosphere is fun and inviting in their large dining area that is filled with vibrant Mexican décor. It is a great place to enjoy dinner out as a couple, with the family or with a large group of friends. The menu is extensive with all of your favorite authentic Mexican dishes as well as restaurant specialties. This family-friendly restaurant serves up a large kids menu, including American fare dishes.

The Decor

Upon entering the restaurant, you are greated by a large foyer with high ceilings and a stone rock wall. Plenty of seating affords very little waiting time. The dining area is segmented by half walls, and the booths and tables are arranged to provide more private dining areas.

The atmosphere is fun and enjoyable with bright vivid colors splashing the walls, traditional Mexican décor throughout the restaurant and mariachi music playing in the background. There is enough space to pull tables together for a group gathering or room for two at a booth.

The Menu
Their menu is extensive, providing more than the basic Mexican foods that you would expect. Immediately, you will be served their tortilla chips and salsa to munch on as you review the menu. There are salads, soups, chicken, seafood, steak, fajitas, pork, vegetarian and their specialties from which to choose. Enjoy a drink or margarita from the full bar. You can also order a la carte for a lighter dinner. A very reasonably priced lunch menu is also available.

The Food

All dishes have a description listed below them so that you know what you are ordering. You may custom order your dish's spiciness in mild, medium, hot or very hot. There are also several meal options cooked for two people. We shared the fajita supreme (pictured at left) that came out sizzling on the hot serving platter. It was accompanied with hot Mexican rice, fried beans, fresh lettuce, plenty of guacamole, sour cream, pico de gallo, and flour tortillas. We could have used more tortillas because there was so much steak, chicken, shrimp, squash and zucchini. The meal portions are a bit overwhelming so expect to pick up a take-home box.

Desserts at Tres Potrillos
The dessert menu includes authentic Mexican favorites such as sopapilla, flan, xangos and chimi-banana. Many people were enjoying desserts when we visited. I ordered the fried ice cream (pictured below), which was as sinfully delicious as it looked. It is the perfect combination of a crispy hot outside with the cold, creamy ice cream on the inside.

Tres Potrillos is very family friendly with no shortage of high chairs and booster seats. There is a great kids menu that includes American fare food for those that do not enjoy Mexican flavor quite yet, the portions are plentiful and prices reasonable. The mariachi music combined with the restaurant layout will mask any extra talking or episodes that your toddler might have as well.

All food at Tres Potrillos is available for take out. This restaurant is also one of Akron’s restaurants available to be delivered through Food Fetchers. For just a $3.99 fee + 15% tip, your food order of $15 or more can be delivered to your home or office Monday through Friday 11am – 9pm, Saturday and Sunday 4 – 9pm.
