Big City Chophouse is an elegant and impressive dining experience in downtown Akron. The restaurant is known for great steaks and authentic Italian dishes with recipes coming straight from Italy and the dining room, bar, and private dining areas offer a classy, relaxing setting. Big City Chophouse is a dining and entertaining destination for any evening or special event celebration.

Conveniently located near many of downtown Akron’s popular attractions including the Akron Art Museum , John S. Knight Center , and EJ Thomas Hall, it is a fantastic addition to any night out on the town.

The Look

Upon entering Big City Chophouse, you will be formally greeted by the attentive staff. The dining room is elegant and well-designed with the use of bold vertical and horizontal lines. Once seated, you will take pleasure in the oversized private booths with padded, black linen clothed tables.

The service is impeccable and formal, while still friendly. Music flows through the restaurant with varying genre, depending on the day and crowd. The best way to describe Big City Chophouse is that you feel like you are out, not just at a restaurant.

The Food

The menu at Big City Chophouse is extensive with authentic Italian dishes, steaks, salads, appetizers, and a full bar.

For me, dinner began with calamari frutti and mozzarella marinara. The calamari was so lightly breaded that it melted in my mouth; it was paired with an addicting Thai chili sauce. The mozzarella was a thick slice of warm cheese covered in fresh marinara sauce with more cheese on top.

I was able to sample several entrees; they were all appealing as varied as they were. Every dish enveloped the table with an enchanting aroma not found in many restaurants. Their signature bone-in ribeye is so tender and juicy, that a knife is hardly necessary. This robust ribeye fills the plate at 16 oz. The lamb chops (pictured above) were mildly flavored with Italian herbs and were incomparably tender.

The veal Florentine was sautéed veal smothered in cheese and white wine sauce with a delectable side of spinach that can’t be matched. The penne Bolognese is an amazing combination of flavor and a favorite of mine. The penne pasta is topped with a tomato meat sauce that is exceptionally fresh and topped with a gigantic meatball. The chicken parmigiana was very lightly breaded and baked with fresh mozzarella & parmesan; another extraordinary option. A chocolate lava cake ended the evening on a sweet, luscious note.
