Bennigan's

Bennigan’s is a franchise restaurant with two Akron area locations, one in Montrose and one in Cuyahoga Falls, as well as locations in North Olmsted, Mentor, Canton, and Elyria.

Update: 7-29-08 - Bennigan's has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and all area locations have closed.

The décor is that of an old Irish neighborhood tavern with dark wood floors, tables and booths, Irish memorabilia hanging on the walls and ceilings, and dim lighting. This casual restaurant is popular with guests of all ages. Although the staff is friendly, service is a bit slower paced.

The Food

Bennigan's offers several Irish dishes and drinks from which to choose, such as the Monte Cristo, Reuben sandwiches, Guinness Grill, and Irish coffee. The majority of the menu is American fare with salads (such as the Greek chicken salad pictured below), seafood, steak, pasta, sandwiches, and burgers. There is also a full selection of alcoholic beverages available.

I enjoyed the Kilkenny’s country chicken salad with honey Dijon dressing. The hot fried chicken meshed well with the Colby cheese and bacon on this very fresh salad. I like the combination of hot chicken with a cold, healthier salad. I sampled my husband’s Monte Cristo sandwich, which was sinfully delicious with the battered and fried sandwich dipped in the raspberry preserves. Monte Cristo came with their scrumptious endless seasoned french fries that were served piping hot. Quantities were generous with take-out boxes a definite necessity.

Bennigan's for Kids

Children are always welcome at Bennigan’s. Each child receives his own take-home cup, a clover cookie, and a menu filled with many games and activities from the popular “Veggie Tales” characters. The children’s menu is larger than most restaurants offer, including appetizers, salads, seven main entrées, nine side dishes, specialty drinks and desserts. My son enjoyed the Chicken-A-Little chicken strips with fresh steamed broccoli and a clover cookie. I liked that there were many side dishes to choose from, not just the standard fries. The portion sizes are more than enough for any child 12 and under.
