The more traditional works in the Akron Art Museum's collection are housed in the original 1899 circa building. Among the highlights are the extensive collection of turn-of-the (20th) century American paintings, including works by Thomas Wilmer Dewing; a collection of paintings by "American in Paris" Frederick C. Frieseke; and a room of paintings by Northeast Ohio born and/or educated artists, including works by William Sommer.
