The Akron Art Museum, founded in 1922, is located in the heart of downtown Akron. Reopening in July of 2007 following a $34 million expansion project, the museum combines the original 1899 Renaissance revival structure with a modern "gravity defying" glass building. The effect is surprisingly fluid and appropriate to the museum's traditional and modern art collections.
