Ohio Colleges Get a Bad Grade
Thursday December 4, 2008
Ohio's colleges and universities are barely passing, according to the National Center for Higher Learning and Education. In their annual report, they indicated that too few Ohioans are pursuing a college degree and that those who do are paying too much for it. The state's schools received their fourth straight "F" in affordability and a C- for low college participation. Also cited were the state's schools losing more students to out-of-state schools than the state attracts and how little the state of Ohio benefits from its college graduates in the work force.State educators complain that the statistics include private colleges over which the state has no control and that the situation will take several years to correct. However, it's clear that Ohio's higher education system needs some attention.
