Deck the Halls at Stan Hywet

Wednesday November 19, 2008

Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens is all decorated for the holidays and ready to welcome visitors. The 1915, 65-room Tudor Revival mansion, once the home of Goodyear founder, F.A. Seiberling and his family, has been transformed into a holiday wonderland with nativity sets from around the world gracing the cozy rooms. In addition, there are Christmas trees throughout the manor, lights, and old photographs of Seiberling holiday celebrations.

Outside, the trees have been strung with multi-colored lights; there's a giant poinsettia tree on the lawn, and a holiday model train is set up in the conservatory. What's more: the carraige house museum store is open and stocked with gift items and the cafe is serving hot chocolate, cookies, and other festive treats.

"Deck the Halls" at Stan Hywet is open from now until December 28, except for Mondays, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas from 630pm to 830pm. Admission to the house and ground is $14, to the grounds only $8. Youth (ages 6-17) are $2 each for either tour. Children age 6 and younger are admitted free with an adult. Stan Hywet is located on the north side of Akron at 714 N. Portage Trail.
