Maui Sands Resort: Ohio's New Waterpark

Wednesday May 28, 2008
Northern Ohio has added a new waterpark to its collection. The Maui Sands Resort, in Sandusky, opened this past weekend and the resort's grand opening celebration is scheduled for mid-June. The resort features a 55,000-square foot indoor waterpark that connects to three resort hotels.

The 306 guest accommodations include the Maui Sands Family Suites a four-story, all-suite hotel; the Maui Sands Village Hotel, with boutique-style rooms and suites in a Hawaiian Village setting; and the Holiday Inn Express, whose 40 rooms have received a "Maui makeover."

The waterpark features North America's first deep-water wave generator, a giant bowl-shaped tube slide, two body slides, a treehouse, an activity pool, and two heated spas--one outdoor and one indoor. Seventy cabanas are available for half-day rental and include cushioned chaise lounges, TVs, mini-fridges, and full food and beverage service.

In addition to the waterpark, facilities at the Maui Sands include a 6000-square foot family entertainment center, a full-service spa and salon, a rooftop sun deck, and five restaurants.
