New National Inventors Hall of Fame Inductees

The National Inventors Hall of Fame, located in Akron, has announced its 2008 class of inductees. Among the are Ruth Benerito, who invented wrinkle-free cotton; Robert Adler, the inventor of the television remote; Calvin Fuller, Gerald Pearson, and Daryl Chapin, who developed the first practical solar cell that transformed solar energy into electricity; and Nick Holonyak Jr., who invented the first visible LED.The new inductees join the over 300 current members. Among the Northeast Ohioans represented are Garrett Morgan, the inventor of the gas mask and the traffic light; Thomas Edison (born in Milan Ohio), for the electric light; Charles Brush, for the arc light; and Harvey Firestone, for the pneumatic tire.
The induction festivities are scheduled for May 2-3, 2008.
