Jury Says Guilty in Jessie Davis Murder Case

Friday February 15, 2008
After four days of deliberation, the Stark County jury returned a guilty verdict in the murder charge and four other charges against former Canton police officer, Bobby Cutts Jr. in the death of Jessie Davis and her unborn baby last June.

The high profile case, which drew national attention, reached its climax on Monday when Cutts admitted to killing Davis, but claimed it was an accident. He also admitted to taking her body out to a remote area of Cuyahoga Valley National Park and burying her in a shallow grave.

Sentencing could begin as early as February 25. It is likely, however, that Cutts will appeal the conviction.

Davis, who was the mother of Cutts' two-year-old son Blake, was reported missing on June 15, 2007 when her mother found the little boy at home alone and Jessie gone. A massive search ensued until Cutts led authorities to the body on June 23. Jessie Davis was nine months pregnant at the time of her death.
