"A Taste of Ohio History"
Monday November 19, 2007
Just in time for the holidays, John Blair Publishers has released the second edition of "A Taste of Ohio History" by Debbie Nunley and Karen Jane Elliott. This fascinating book is half cookbook, half history book and looks over 100 restaurants housed in century homes around the Buckeye state. Each entry features a page of history about the site and the eatery, follows by two or three recipes submitted by the location. Restaurants are divided by what unites them, such as restaurants on small town "Main Streets," those in old mills, restaurants in cabins, and those with associations to the Underground Railroad.
Northeast Ohio sites showcased in the book include the Great Lakes Brewing Company in Ohio City, The Cabin in Willowick, the Zoar Tavern, Riders Inn in Painesville, and Don's Pomeroy House in Strongsville, just to name a few.
I was reminded of several restaurants that I'd forgotten about as well as learned of new places to try. It looks like I have some traveling to do this season.
