Cleveland Lead Yankees 2-0 in the ALDS

Friday October 5, 2007
Yes, it was at the "Jake" in Cleveland and yes, it was between the Indians and the Yankees, but tonight's game two of the American League Division Series couldn't have been more different from last night's game one. Game one was about hitting; tonight it was all about the pitching. Andy Pettitte for the Yankees and Fausto Carmona (pictured at right) for the Indians pitched near flawlessly, taking their teams to a 1-0 Yankees lead in the eighth inning.

Bring on the Bugs
It was in the eighth inning that the Yankees, particularly relief pitcher Joba Chamberlin, got to know about the Lake Erie midges, those tiny, annoying insects that hang out near the lake on windless evenings. All of a sudden there were time-outs for bug spray, close-ups of the pitcher's bug-laden neck, and almost audible curses from the Yankee dug-out. It was then that Chamberlin did with a wild pitch what the Indians couldn't seem to do all evening--he allowed the Tribe to score a run.

Travis in the 11th for the Win
It would take three more innings and two more Yankees pitchers before the Indians finished New York 2-1 in the 11th inning with a bases-loaded, two out, base hit by Travis Hafner. I'm not sure a game could get more nerve-wracking than that.

The battle for the American League title continue at Yankee Stadium on Sunday. Game time is 630pm.
