Continental Airlines Announces Cleveland Hopkins Airport Expansion

Continental Airlines, along with Mayor Frank G. Jackson and Governor Ted Stickland, announced this morning a plan to expand their facilities at Cleveland Hopkins Airport by 40 percent over the next two years. They anticipate that they project will:
  • Create 700 new jobs
  • Add 50 new flights initially
  • Add 20 additional non-stop flights by summer of 2008
  • Add more than a dozen "global" flights by early 2009
According to the Continental Airlines press release, new non-stop destinations from Cleveland will include Quebec City (began in June of 2007); Oklahoma City and Ottawa (in late September 2007); and Greensboro, Omaha, Savannah, Birmingham, Charleston, Green Bay, Tulsa, Little Rock, Memphis, Lansing, Des Moines, and Kalamazoo (all by early 2008).

On a global scale, the previously announced seasonal service to Paris' Charles de Gaulle airport will begin May 22, 2008.

Improvements at Cleveland Hopkins Airport will include an expanded security checkpoint area, a new meet-and-greet waiting area, additional ticket counters, and additional concession and food and beverage options.

Continental Airlines is offering discounted airfares to all of the new destinations listed above, including Paris, for tickets purchased by September 28, 2007. You can read more about the offer here (at the bottom of the page).
