Cleveland Metroparks Zoo Turns 125!
Friday September 14, 2007
The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is turning 125 on September 15 and she certainly doesn't look her age. The favorite Cleveland attraction was first established in 1882 at Wade Oval in University Circle, with a several pairs of deer donated by Western Union founder, Jeptha Wade. The park moved to its present location in the early 20th century, when plans were laid out for the Cleveland Museum of Art. The deer, however, stayed at University Circle until 1975, when they joined the rest of the animals.
The Zoo has planned a big ZOObilee celebration to commemorate the anniversary. The park will be open from 10am to 7pm and there will be live music all day, children's crafts, costumed characters, close animal encounters, a self-guided historic tour of the zoo, and fun for all ages.
Admission is $10 for adults and just $1.25 for children. Parking is free.
