Exchange that Dangerous Mercury Thermometer

Sunday August 5, 2007
Do you still have a thermometer in your home that looks like the one pictured here? Old mercury thermometers can pose both a health and an environmental hazard. Exchange that mercury thermometer for a free, safe (and easy to read) digital one at a community event, sponsored by the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District, on August 11 at the Berea Rec Center at 451 Front Street in Berea.

The organizers ask that you double bag your mercury thermometer or place it in a sealed container to prevent leakage should it break. You may bring as many old thermometers as you'd like, but there's a limit of one digital thermometer per household.

Other events include a discussion panel on toxic metals and their potential effects on health and a talk about food safety.
