Treemendous Treehouses at Stan Hywet
Tuesday May 15, 2007
Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens, just south of Cleveland in Akron, is hosting a whimsical and interactive exhibit this summer -- "Treemendous Treehouses." The exhibit, which runs through September features 11 distinctive treehouses, designed by Northeast Ohio architects, with fun names, such as "Robin's Rhapsody," "Hobbit's House," and "Kermit's Fishing Pier." Visitors can walk through each of the houses, which are spread out along a 1.5 mile loop, and all are handicap accessible. Most of the treehouses are for sale, with the exception of "The Hobbit's House," which is being raffled off for charity.
The 70-acre Stan Hywet estate is celebrating its 50th year as a museum this season. The former home of Goodyear Tire and Rubber founder, F. A. Seiberling, and his family includes a 65-room Tudor revival manor house, a gate house, a carriage house shop, and extensive manicured gardens.
Stan Hywet Hall is open daily. Hours for the mansion are 10am - 430pm, for the grounds 9am - 6pm, and for the Carraige House Store and Cafe are 10am - 5pm.
Admission to the gardens, grounds, and greenhouse is $8 adults, $6 for children 6-17, and free for children under 6 when accompanied by an adults.
