Cleveland Zoo Announces Plans for New Elephant Habitat

The Cleveland Zoo announced this week its intention to build a new $25 million, state-of-the-art elephant habitat. The facility, to be called the African Elephant Crossing, will be located on five acres near the entrance to the park and quadruple the space in the current 1950s Pachyderm House.Construction on the new facility will begin in 2007 and is expected to be completed by 2010. It will mimic the savannah and grasslands of Eastern Africa and house from 8-10 elephants as well as other savannah wildlife.
The Cleveland Zoo has been welcoming visitors for over 125 years. The zoo is open every day expect for Christmas Day and New Year's Day from 10am - 5pm. Parking is free.
