Kucinich Announces Bid for the Presidency

Tuesday December 12, 2006
Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich announced today his intention to run for President of the United States. The six-term Democratic congressman and former Cleveland mayor is known for his unwavering stance against the war in Iraq and his support of LGBT issues and a national healthcare system.

Dennis Kucinich has been recognized worldwide for his work to promote human rights and is the recipient of the 2003 Gandhi Peace Award. When asked by WKYC News why he has decided to run, Rep. Kucinich replied that he doesn't feel that his party is doing enough to end the war in Iraq.

In his press conference today, Rep. Kucinich said that he is running for president because his democratic party "is not listening to the voters." Evoking FDR, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Lyndon Johnson, and Jimmy Carter, he challenged Americans to "keep alive the spirit of the nation -- a nation created on unity." With his striking wife, Elizabeth, at his side, Kucinich said that he "fully expects to win."

Rep. Kucinich has embraced the blogging community and even posts his own blog on his "Kucinich for President" website. This is the second time Kucinich has run for President. He ran unsuccessfully in 2004.
