Ohio Turns Blue
Wednesday November 8, 2006
Democratic candidates fared very well in traditionally Republican Ohio in yesterday's election. After 16 years of Republican administrations, Ohio has elected Democrat, Ted Strickland to be Ohio's next governor. Strickland (pictured at right) won easily over Ohio Secretary of State, Ken Blackwell. Strickland, a SW Ohio native, brings an interesting background to the statehouse. In addition to being a six-term Congressman, he has been a minister, a psychologist, and a professor. Ohio's new Lieutenant Governor is Northeast Ohio's own Lee Fisher, former Ohio Attorney General.Ohio voters also elected Democrat Sherrod Brown to the US Senate, unseating two-term Republican Senator Mike DeWine. Brown, a Mansfield native and six-term Congressman, is a former Ohio Secretary of State, Ohio school teacher, and OSU professor. He is married to Plain Dealer Pulitzer-Prize-winning columnist Connie Schultz. They live in Avon.
Other Ohio Democrats winning state office are Richard Cordray for State Treasurer and Jennifer Brunner for Secretary of State.
