Scheduled Flights to Return to Cleveland's Burke Lakefront Airport

Tuesday July 18, 2006
Cleveland-based public charter company, Destination One, has announced that it will begin service from Cleveland's Burke Lakefront Airport (pictured at left) to the downtown Detroit and Cincinnati airports beginning July 31. The Detroit and Cincinnati flights will run Monday through Friday. On weekends, the planes will be used for Cleveland to Kiawah and Hilton Head, South Carolina service.

Destination One is using three 30-seat Embraer 120 Jet Prop aircraft. The one-way fares are $159 to Detroit, $199 to Cincinnati, and $395 to Kiawah and Hilton Head. There are no advance booking requirements or cancellation penalties associated with DestinatonOne fares. Taxes and fees are additional.

Reservations and information can be found on the DestinationOne website or by calling 1-877-359-5339.

One note from your Guide: As a former travel agent, I'm wary of start-up airlines, particularly charter carriers. The fine print of the "operator-participant" contract posted on the DestinationOne website contains the clause: "The Operator retains the right ... to change or withdraw a Charter if necessary." If they cancel your flight, you'll receive a full refund, but that won't get you to the condo you rented in Hilton Head. I advise readers to pay via credit card if they choose to fly DestinationOne and to be cautious in booking too far in advance.

Burke Lakefront and Destination One officials say that the new air service will not interfere with special events at the airport, such as the Cleveland Air Show and the Cleveland Grand Prix.
