Cleveland Heights Filmmaker Goes to Sundance
Friday January 20, 2006
Congratulations to Cleveland Heights filmmaker, Laura Paglin, whose short documentary, No Umbrella – Election Day in the City, was accepted for screening at the Sundance Film Festival, which runs through January 26.
The 26-minute film tells the story of Cleveland’s east side Ward 7 on election day 2004 and the struggle of octogenarian councilwoman, Fanny Lewis and others to get voting machines so that the long lines of her constituents, most of whom had been standing in the rain for hours, could vote.
Ms.Paglin, a native of Oregon, came to Cleveland to study at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she earned a Masters degree in piano performance. Her other films include NightOwls of Coventry.
